FAQ
FAQ
When should I book my cake?
Amber’s diary does get very busy so try to order your cake as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment. For wedding cakes, Amber takes bookings for the current year plus the following 2 years so you can book your cake very early on in your wedding planning journey! Amber recommends booking at least 12-18 months in advance – especially if your wedding is in the peak season (May-September). For celebration cakes and toppers, Amber recommends providing at least 12 weeks notice. These time scales do not guarantee that your date will be available, but the chances are increased! Sadly, Amber rarely has the capacity to fulfil short notice orders although you are welcome to ask!
I want to book my wedding cake with you. Do I have to know my final design before I book?
The great thing is that you don’t! You can save your wedding date in Amber’s diary with a payment of £50. Amber then finalises your design with you around 6 months or so before your wedding. If you know what design you would like at the time of booking, that is perfectly fine too!
What size cake do I need?
This will depend on how many guests your cake is for and how much cake you would like! You can find a copy of the cake portion guide here.
What flavour cakes do you make?
Amber does have a flavour menu full of delicious options for you to choose from. You can find the menu here.
My favourite flavour isn’t on your menu. Can you make it for me?
Honestly…it depends on what it is!
Can I taste your cake before my wedding day?
Amber does offer a tasting and design consultations by appointment. These are complimentary for all couples who have paid their save the date payment and are ordering at least a 2 tier (minimum size 8” and 6” round) wedding cake. Alternatively, a tasting and design consultation is available to purchase for £35. Please see here for more details. Amber often takes samples of one or two flavours with her to wedding fairs for couples to try too so be sure to stop by her stand! You can find details of upcoming wedding fairs where Amber will be exhibiting here.
Can you cater for specific dietary requirements or allergen free cakes?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to cater for those with severe allergies or those who follow a gluten free diet. Amber can bake a cake which does not contain nuts but the ingredients she uses may contain traces of nuts or may have been prepared in a factory which handles nuts. Amber also bakes with nuts in her kitchen. As such any cakes made without nuts would still not be suitable for those with a severe nut allergy. Amber is able to offer a Vegan chocolate cake/cupcakes or a dairy free vanilla cutting cake/cupcakes.
Do you make cakes with faux tiers?
Yes! These can be a great way to maximise the impact and grandeur of your cake whilst keeping waste to a minimum! Just let Amber know that you would like faux layers included in your design.
I would like a cake decorated with buttercream or a semi naked cake. Can you make this for me?
Amber specialises in cakes decorated with sugar paste icing (sometimes referred to as fondant icing). Amber does not offer semi naked cakes or cakes finished with buttercream. Amber is happy to recommend other cake makers who may be able to help with this style of cake.
How much will my cake cost?
The final cost of your cake will depend on many factors such as size, complexity of design, whether it has tiers and so on. You can find some further guidance here.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes! For celebration cakes the deposit is 25% of the value of your order. For couple toppers it £20, and for wedding cakes, you can save your date for £50. In all instances, the balance is payable 2 weeks before your cake/topper is due and payment by instalments can be arranged. Amber will tell you the amount of any deposit at the time of booking. For all smaller orders e.g. small quantities of cupcakes, biscuits, small toppers etc, payment in full is required at the time of booking.
Do you deliver cakes?
Yes! Delivery is undertaken across Norfolk, Suffolk and North Essex. Delivery to NR32 and NR33 postcode areas is free of charge. Delivery outside of this area is subject to a return mileage charge of 50p per mile. Amber will let you know the cost of delivery to your venue prior to booking. Delivery is recommended for all wedding cakes.
Do you post your toppers?
No, sadly they are just too fragile. All toppers are collection only from Lowestoft, Suffolk or by prior arrangement, they can be collected from an event where Amber is exhibiting e.g. a wedding fair, craft fair etc.
