About Amber
I would like to say that I have been baking since I was 5 years old and spent hours in the kitchen with my mum/grandma baking, but the truth is my only interest in cakes when I was 5 (and for many years thereafter) was eating them!
The cake decorating bug didn’t bite me until well into my thirties when my son declared that it was TOTALLY ESSENTIAL that he had an ‘angry birds’ birthday cake for his party the next day. A dash to the supermarket yielded shelves devoid of ‘angry birds’ birthday cakes. Too cowardly to face that bottom lip, teary-eyed “you have failed me” look from my offspring, I just knew that I had to make one.
Many painstaking hours later with cake mix in my hair and totally exhausted, I had managed to create something that looked pretty passable. And there it was, that night, during those frantic early hours between the snot and tears, a little something within me was ignited and my passion for cake decorating was unleashed upon the world!
I completed a cake decorating evening course at East Coast College, several other in-person and online courses, watched hundreds of hours of YouTube and honed my skills on family and friends for several years before taking the plunge and setting up Amber’s Sugar Models and Cakes in 2020. I now specialise in sugarpaste (also sometimes called fondant) decorated cakes and I have a particular interest in making sugar models. I am also member of the British Sugarcraft Guild (BSG).
I consider myself to be very fortunate because I now get to be creative and make people happy everyday with cake! I adore what I do, and I love having the opportunity to work with my customers to make a whole variety of different themed and styles of cakes – no angry birds ones yet though!
